All over the country on Thursday 2nd June 2022, Town Criers are being invited to undertake a Proclamation at 2pm announcing the lighting of the beacons later the same evening. At 9.35pm pipers from across the UK and the Commonwealth (individual pipers and pipe bands) are being asked to play 'Diu Regnare'. This will be followed by 'Song for the Commonwealth' (both pieces specially written to mark the occasion) which will be sung by choirs throughout the UK and the Commonwealth at exactly 9.45pm local time to coincide with the lighting of the beacons filling the world with the sound of music and song in celebration of this special moment in The Queen’s life.
To mark this very special occasion, Musselburgh & Inveresk Community Council are organising the lighting of a beacon on the beach near Fisherrow Links on Thursday 2nd June 2022.
At 9.35pm, Musselburgh & Penicuik Boys’ Brigade pipe band will play 'Diu Regnare'. This will be followed at 9.40pm by a bugle call entitled ‘Majesty’.
At 9.45pm, the Clark Community Choir will sing 'Song for the Commonwealth' as the Deputy Lord Lieutenant for East Lothian, Iain Clark lights the beacon to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's Platinum Anniversary year.
