About Us

MICC covers the Musselburgh and Inveresk area, the largest town in East Lothian, and is part of the wider Musselburgh Area Partnership structure.

It meets regularly (2nd Tuesday of each month, not July (or is it August??)) and works alongside local councillors, police, and community groups.

MICCs role falls into three main areas:

Representing the community

  • Raise local concerns (e.g. planning, parking, safety)

  • Respond to consultations

  • Act as a collective voice for resident's


Improving the town

  • Deliver small infrastructure improvements (e.g. benches, railings, lighting)

  • Support preservation of local heritage and public spaces


Organising events & community life

  • Musselburgh Children’s Gala

  • Torchlight Parade

  • Remembrance Service

  • Community Celebrations

Projects

From heritage restoration to everyday public spaces, MICC delivers projects that make Musselburgh more welcoming, usable and proud. We have delivered a wide range of practical, visible improvements across Musselburgh—enhancing public spaces, celebrating heritage, and creating places people are proud of.

Key Projects Include:

  • Town Gateway Sculptures – creating a strong sense of arrival and identity

  • Old Hayweights Clock Regeneration – restoring a historic landmark

  • High Church Clock Restoration – preserving a key feature of the town’s heritage

  • Memorial Fountain Benches – improving accessibility and use of civic space

  • Promenade Enhancements

    • Boat feature seating area

    • Landscaping improvements

    • Picnic benches for families and visitors

  • Rennie & Roman Bridge Lighting – showcasing iconic structures and improving the night-time environment

  • Annual Christmas Lights Programme – bringing seasonal vibrancy and supporting the town centre

Current Projects Include:

  • Promoting local businesses through an interactive community map to increase visibility and footfall

  • Establishing a ‘Blooming Musselburgh’ group to enhance and maintain planting, green spaces, and town appearance

  • Re-establishing the Musselburgh Youth Games in collaboration with the Musselburgh Loop to engage young people

  • Organising the annual Musselburgh Children’s Gala as a key community event

  • Developing Community Place Plans to help shape the future of Musselburgh and guide local priorities
